Sun Mask hand carved Pendant

Sun mask sterling silver hand carved pendant is a representation of the sun which as you can imagine is very important in an area like this that gets from 50 to 200 inches of rain per year. The sun was placed in the sky by our famous cousin Raven and is featured in many dances and stories of the Northwest Coast Indian tribes. There is great variation in Sun masks sometimes the central face is a bird, sometimes human, sometimes it is really hard to tell just what that is, but it is always the sun. Sun masks are often very large and ungainly to dance, but that very quality often gives them a majestic quality. This particular Sun has a human face and only four rays surrounding it. I am very fond of the sun and always like to portray him as smiling.
