This lost wax cast sterling Raven and the Sun Ring #313 has been designed and cast by Walker Goldsmiths. The Tlingit’s, an Alaska Native Tribe, tell the story that Raven’s people were tired of always being in the dark, so Raven contrived a plan to be born as a human baby to the daughter of the Great Chief. He played on the floor of Grandfather’s lodge and whined to play with the beautiful Glowing Ball in the cedar box. Grandfather spoiled this charming child and let him play with it. Raven seized his opportunity, dramatically transformed into Raven and with the Ball he flew thru the smoke hole. The Ball started to fall apart as he squeezed through, while Raven caught the parts and threw all into the sky with a mighty heave. Thus the Sun, Moon and stars were flung into the universe to light up the sky.
The Raven & the Sun Ring is a 3-D ring carved in a traditional split totem style with the Sun in the center and Raven represented on both sides. We like to celebrate any bit of light that we can since we at Walker Goldsmiths live in the great Northwest, land of much rain and clouds! Sizes 6 to 14.
